12 Days: Delhi l Agra l Jaipur l Sawarda l Jodphpur l Jojowar Village l Udaipur

This delightful India tour illustrates the wealth of history, culture and mughal architecture in the colourful Rajasthan region. Travel from majestic grand monuments in Delhi and the famous Taj Mahal of Agra to the ancient forts in Jodhpur and the lakeside palace of Udaipur. In between experience an elephant ride to Amber Fort in the “Pink City” of Jaipur, soak up the atmosphere of the royal residence at Sawarda Fort and discover Indian rural village life.

Day 1 Arrive in Delhi

Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel to begin your North India tour.

Day 2 Delhi

The first day of your tour in India starts with a rickshaw ride through narrow lanes in Old Delhi’s busiest street Chandni Chowk (closed on Sunday) to discover the real India. Take a photo stop at the historic Red Fort monument, and visit India’s largest mosque of Jama Masjid, a 150-year-old mansion with original mughal architecture. In the afternoon, visit the World Heritage listed site of Humayun’s tomb, a magnificent structure of red sandstone and white marble. Then head off to one of the most colonial parts of New Delhi called Raisina Hill. Drive past the residence of the President of India and the India Gate, a war memorial arch. In the evening sample a traditional home-style Indian vegetarian dinner. (B/D)

Day 3 Delhi / Agra

In the morning drive to Agra for the next stage of your India holiday package. In the afternoon visit Agra Fort and admire its beautiful red standstone mughal architecture. Here you will glimpse the Taj Mahal in the distance for the first time. See craftsmen in action at a marble inlay workshop. (B)

Day 4 Agra / Jaipur

Get up early and bask in the spectacular sunrise at the magnificent Taj Mahal, a highlight of your holiday in India. Marvel at its beauty, brilliance and exquisite craftsmanship. On the drive to the "Pink City" of Jaipur, see fascinating archicetural details of the Mughal Empire at Fatehpur Sikri. (B/D)

Day 5 Jaipur

In the morning embark on a fun-filled elephant ride to the Amber Fort. At the fort, stroll through the sprawling complex of courtyards and halls. Many of the rooms have delightful wall paintings, with precious stones and mirrors set in the walls. Enjoy a photo stop at the Palace of Winds to see the beautiful pink sandstone carvings. In the afternoon visit the City Palace Museum which is an overwhelming complex of exquisite palaces, gardens, courtyards, decorative art and carved doorways. See a large collection of Indian artefacts. Finish the day with a tour of Jantar Mantar (the Royal Astronomical Observatory) and enjoy a local specialty dinner. (B/D)

Day 6 Sawarda

For the next stage of your India holiday package, take a morning drive to Sawarda, a small fort that is still a residence of the nobles of Sawarda who belong to an offshoot of the Jaipur royal family.There are two small temples, gardens, and interesting frescoed rooms at the fort. Take an afternoon tour of a village, visiting the families of village workers such as potters and ironsmiths. Stop at a beautiful Jain temple and a Hindu temple in the village, meet members of the ’village panchayat’ (governing body) and understand the way they run things, as well as visiting the local schools and health centre. In the evening you will have the opportunity to participate in an ’aarti’ in the family temple. Stay at the fort for one night. (B)

Day 7 Sawarda / Jodhpur

To continue your North India tour, drive to Jodhpur (about 5 hours), one of the major cultural centres and key trading centre of Rajasthan. It is located on the edge of the Great Thar Desert, and is best known as the "Blue City’ because many of the buildings are painted blue. Upon arrival, check in your hotel. (B)

Day 8 Jodphur

In the morning visit the imposing Meherangarh Fort, which sits atop a sheer rocky ridge in the middle of town. Explore the many palaces and courtyards contained within the fort, and enjoy stunning views of the azure-hued buildings in the city. In the afternoon explore lively bazaars full of exotic spices, colourful textiles, and handicrafts; a wonderful cultural experience on your tour in India. (B)

Day 9 Jojowar Village

Take a scenic drive to the unspoiled and friendly village of Jojawar to sample the beautiful Rajasthani life. Experience an exhilarating single gauge train safari. (B)

Day 10 Udaipur

Drive to the romantic city of Udaipur for the next stage of your India holiday package. On the way visit the stunning Ranakpur Jain Temple to see its elaborate and extensive carvings. Upon arrival, wander around the lovely Garden of the Maids of Honour, and absorb the magical atmosphere with a sunset boat ride. Taste a local specialty dinner in the evening. (B/D)

Day 11 Udaipur

On the last full day of your India holiday, visit the Jagdish Temple, an Indo-Aryan temple containing a black stone image of Vishnu as Jagannath - Lord of the Universe. Take a tour of the City Palace, surmounted by balconies, towers and cupolas, where there are excellent views of the city and lakeside from the upper terraces. Enjoy the view of city from the peaceful Jagdish Temple located on top of a hill. (B)

Day 12 Depart Udaipur

Your India holiday package from Australia ends with a transfer to the airport for your flight home. (B)
